Homework Folder and book bag Procedure
Reading- Students will be responsible to read 20 minutes a night to an adult at least 4 days a week. Weekends count! For example: Students can read Mon., Tues., Thurs., and any day on the weekend. The top ten ways to improve reading are to READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, and READ!Please initial that they read on the slip in their book bag. If the slip fell out of the bag, please just make one. We will be keeping track of the nightly reading. If I notice that they haven't read in a while they will have to make a phone call home.
Testable books- We will be learning how to take comprehension tests on the books in their bookbags. These books will be at their level. If you notice that a books is too easy or too hard please let me know so I can make adjustments. Students will be able to earn points from taking tests and earn prizes!
Spelling- Please have your child study their spelling words. I have a link on this website to Spelling City which has games and activities your child can play to practice. I will be grouping students in different ability levels for reading. I have all of the spelling lists posted on this website so please download and print if you need a copy. We extended our reading lessons to a week and a half so the spelling tests will rotate from Fridays to Tuesdays. Checkout the class calendar, I will have the dates of the spelling tests posted.
Math- We are beginning a new math series called Math Expressions. This new series requires students to do nightly homework. The homework is short and should not take to much time. Please have your child complete the homework nightly and return to school. I also have a link to Math Expressions that provides extra math practice via games.
